We identify and train local women within their communities as Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs) to deliver essential healthcare services in underserved areas. These women work towards sustainable healthcare models, leverage technology for telehealth, and collaborate with government functionaries and community stakeholders to make a lasting impact on community well-being.
At the core of Healing Fields Foundation's operating model is the training, empowerment, and mobilization of CHEs to provide accessible healthcare solutions at the grassroots level. We equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to address local healthcare challenges, enabling them to act as health change agents and educators.
CHEs play a vital role in delivering essential health services, products, and education to their communities, ensuring people receive the care and guidance they need. To enhance healthcare accessibility, Healing Fields Foundation also integrates technology-driven solutions, such as telehealth, into its programs.
Collaboration is key to our approach. We partner with government agencies and organizations to develop sustainable healthcare models that extend our impact, ensuring long-term improvements in community health and well-being.
We have trained over 7000+ CHEs who reach more than 7000 villages and touch 9 million lives on a continuing care basis.
Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs) are women from rural and resource-poor communities selected, trained, and supported to become health catalysts in their villages.
Our CHE is the nodal point for identifying high-risk individuals, referring them to relevant government programs or facilitating telehealth consultations, and then following up with beneficiaries to ensure adherence to treatment. This daily action agenda coupled with our ingenious community based paradigm has resulted in a continuum of care model .
Two decades ago, we began with the goal of creating a community based model. Where the solution, seeker and the deliverer would be from within the community. The citizen beneficiary and the CHE belong to the village and the local community. By them, for them, from them. That’s how our CHE model has been at work. Today it stands as an enviable testimony to our founding vision

The Foundational Community Health Entrepreneur (CHE) program integrates health and entrepreneurship training to empower women and promote self-sufficiency. The program includes classroom sessions, guest lectures, group discussions, community projects, and internships, equipping participants with the necessary skills to drive change.
To identify potential CHEs, Healing Fields Foundation collaborates with local stakeholders, selecting women who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to transforming their communities. The training spans six months, followed by an internship. Participants dedicate four days per month to classroom sessions and one day per month during the internship for reviews and refreshers.
The Telehealth Facilitator training is offered to selected CHEs who have completed the foundational program, exhibited leadership qualities, and demonstrated entrepreneurial skills. The program includes instructional videos, manuals, workbooks, hands-on activities, case simulations, and intensive bedside teaching, ensuring a deep understanding of telehealth facilitation.
Experienced trainers closely supervise the CHEs throughout the process. Upon successful completion, the participants receive certification as Telehealth Facilitators along with a medical kit containing essential equipment. This initiative bridges physical and digital healthcare ("phygital"), empowering women with knowledge and technology to extend healthcare access.
As part of the School Health Education Champion Program, selected CHEs are trained to lead six months of health education in public and affordable private schools. The program integrates videos, activities, projects, and lectures to engage students in adolescent health, hygiene, nutrition, and menstrual hygiene, fostering positive behavioral change.
By seeding lifelong healthy habits, School Health Champions promote behavioral shifts both at school and at home. Students take on leadership roles by organizing school events, educating classmates through peer-to-peer learning, and conducting one-on-one behavior change motivation sessions alongside group demonstrations. The SHE profram is a unique one implemented across 3000 schools.
After completing their training, CHEs continue to serve their communities, playing a crucial role in health education, basic healthcare, and telehealth services.
